Pls excuse if there is an obvious solution to this problem, but I've been
googling around for a couple of hours to no avail. Have kept referring to
this site over the past year so seems the best place to post my Q.
I am running a zine where articles are entered in a cfform and posted to an
Access db. On my current host's server this works fine, and when text is
queried, items such as quotes, apostrophes, emdashes all look great.
Occasionally I need to download the whole db and manually edit some records.
When I upload again, data still looks great when queried.
Now I want to move to a new host. I've uploaded my same db to new server,
but when article data is queried, quotes and other special characters
display as rectangles. However, when I edit from the cfform on the new
site, retype those same characters, and cfupdate the record in the db, that
record now displays correctly. Seems that new articles will not have the
encoding problem, but for the old articles, is the encoding somehow getting
messed up in FTP process? Any way to prevent? I have nearly 400 articles
plus other tables and I can't reenter all quotation marks, etc.
Thx for your help - hawk3ye
