are these 'franchise' sites on the same server?  I just setup a system to 'share' sessions for this setup.  I created a central login code area using an application named main.  basically no matter what application the user hits, i use the cfapplication tag to hit the application named main first, dupe the data I want from it to the local scope, then use the cfapplication tag to start the 'franchised' application.  So, in my login code for each application I have two cfapplication tags, the first for the main app, the second for the local app.  This allows me to share basic session data across apps as well as implementing a single-siogn-on environment.

Subject: Passing session variables between applications

Hey all,

I'm an experienced web scripting and database programmer but am quite
new to ColdFusion.  I'm developing an app in CF MX where I have a bit of
a conundrum.  Basically the client has a corporate home page where
people can sign up for an account, which they can log into via the usual
login/password scheme and I then have their member ID stored in a
session variable.  Once they have an account on the site, however, they
are able to gain access to other "franchise" sites and shop at them.
The corporate site and the store sites are two separate CF
applications.  Apparently CF session variables don't persist across
different applications, but I don't want the user to have to re-login
every time they visit one of the store sites if they've already logged
in at the main site.  And obviously I don't want to pass the member ID
in a URL parameter for security reasons.  Is there a secure way to pass
variables between applications?

Thanks,
Lee
