There are 2 that I Know of:

1) Lucene, at:

    http://jakarta.apache.org/lucene/docs/index.html

2) Glimpse, at:

    http://webglimpse.net/download.php

I started to install lucene, for my own education -- but got
sidetracked.

Before discovering Coldfusion in 1998, I developed about 10 Perl-based
sites hosted by webcom.  Webcom provided the Glimpse search engine and
I included it in most of my sites.  It was very easy to use and
program.  I liked it.

Glimpse did not (then, and may not now) include the stemming ability of
verity, but I think lucene does.

Post what you find -- and what you eventually decide to use -- I may
want to pickup the thread in the future.

HTH & TIA

Dick
