I know that this is not directly applicable, but CFMX 6.1 does indeed
run (and quite well)
on a 1.3 JVM -- on Mac OS X.
Actually this is a bug in the JRun installer -- it does not pick up the
fact that the current JVM is 1.4.2 -- it's hard-coded for 1.3.1.
But, Apple decided to support multiple concurrent versions of the JVM
so Java applications that require earlier versions of a JVM will still
run quite happily (though the rest of the world has moved on)
MM is working on a JRun updater that will resolve this for OS X.
