Hi Kevin,

I wrote a tool called GridMonger that does this.  Its free, although there is also a US$10 version that has a few more features and a form-based grid builder to make life easier.

>- Edit data in an Excel-type interface, without having to select
>individual rows

Multi-line edit mode does this.

>Lock individual columns from edit

Specify the field as not editable and the column is locked out.

- Mass update changed data cells

Multi-line editing allows you to update an entire screen of fields with a single click.  On some applications I have set line output to 300 rows, done edits and one click saves everything.

- Client side editing w/ data updates submitted as a batch upon request

GM doesn't do this but I'm always open to feature requests.  However this sounds more like something that you would write your own CF to do.  You wouldn't need a grid in the way to accomplish what sounds like a csv import.

Interesting that you mention that other product.  A lot of their former users use GM now, and they are pretty upset as a rule.  Before they sanitized their support forum there were legions of angry posts there.  If you look at their devex download counts and do some math you'll see their #1 download status -- which came out of nowhere in the last several weeks -- has been faked.  It amazes me that Macromedia hasn't gotten wind of this.
