installed as a java app (rather than standalone) it can't use the registery
no matter what, because that wouldn't be platform independent.
On a different note, using the registry for client storage generally isn't a
good idea. Scalability just isn't there compared to a database, there are
hard filesize limitations on the registry, and you can't share the registry
amongst multiple servers.
