Partly its hype.  Kudos to Google for doing next to nothing and
getting the world to come drooling to its doorstep.  Part of it is a
silly rush to get our choice acct names, too.

But the gmail interface actually has some really nice improvements to
it.  Most of which, imho, lend themselves beautifully to a tech list
like this one.  Just for starters, it keeps 'conversations' -- threads
-- together, and has an elegantly simple way for you to expand these
conversations, run thru them, and return to them without having to
scroll thru the stuff it knows you already saw.

I moved all my list traffic to it after about a day of tinkering.  Its
much nicer than using Outlook and rules to move stuff to folders.
