It looks like the Amazon deal is little more than a means of keeping
their name in the e-commerce biz. Probably a good move for someone like
ToysRUs, who'll probably be in business ten years from now. They just
need to wait around until most of the other .coms go out of business.
In the meantime, Amazon gets a nice marquee name under which to do
business. I guess Amazon is prepared to loose money for another couple
of years.
It's a shame that Allaire will loose the marketing claim of running
ToysRUs, but given the site's performance during last holiday season, it
may be just as well. I don't imagine Amazon will have much difficulty
dropping ToysRUs catalog into their current site template. Still, along
with the fulfillment end of the operation, it's pretty amazing that they
plan on doing this by the holiday season.
