I wasn't going to comment on this fork of the thread.
Apple may be mismanaged, but:
Their market share is rising, especially laptops. and servers.
They dominate certain sectors (iPods, iTunes -- having sold over 100
million songs),
They own about 80 Computer stores.
Their G5 boxes were combined into a super computer that was the 3rd
fastest in the world (and cost hundreds of millions less then the first
2 -- and was assembled in months)
This is currently being done by several other universities using the
latest G5 servers.
They are profitable in each of their market segments.
They just had their best quarter in 8 years, 3 times that of last year,
They are debt free.
They have a very small, managable, inventory.
They are sitting on $6 Billion in cash.
Their stock is sell selling at around $32 as compared to about $18 a
year ago.
An interesting way to say this is they have about $13.50 in cash for
each share of outstanding stock.
I am doing this off the top of my head, but I am not too far off on the
numbers.
So, when the bottom falls out, Apple could likely buy back all of its
stock, and still be able to survive.
Or, optionally, they could release their OS on other platforms and make
a little money that way.
I think that Dell does pretty well, but how about some of the other PC
mfgrs.
If, that is mismanagement, Jobs should teach business management at
Wharton, or Harvard.
Their competitors should shoud be so badly managed!
