Dave, we are also planning on using NLB and CFMX on JRun.  Are you
saying that if we are using NLB, there is no need to cluster CFMX as
well?

We will have two separate servers that will use NLB in single affinity
(sticky session) mode.  I am assuming that, as long as both CFMX
installations are configured correctly, there won't be a need to cluster
CFMX.  Does that sound right?

Thanks

Are you planning on using NLB in addition to JRun clustering, or
instead of
it?

NLB clustering itself is pretty easy to set up. I did that last
week for a
client, actually. Ideally, each cluster member should have two
NICs, so that
you can run NLB traffic on one NIC of each machine. If you don't
have two
NICs, you'll need to choose the "Multicast" option for each
host. NLB
clustering doesn't do anything for you if CFMX itself should
fail, though -
you'll need to monitor your CF services yourself. If you're
using NLB to
cluster access to your web server, and you're using session
variables within
your applications, you'll have to set up "sticky" sessions
within the NLB
interface. I think the option is called "single affinity".

JRun clustering, on the other hand, will cluster your JRun
instances
themselves, so you might have a single web server that talks to
multiple
JRun instances through a JRun cluster.

It is possible to combine web server clustering (NLB) and JRun
server
clustering, although I'm not sure whether that's worth doing.

If you have any questions about NLB, feel free to contact me
directly.
