to be able to extend CF programs and/or to be able to write complete
Java apps.
I am one of the people who is learning Java.
I have been using O'Reilly's Safari to read the book: "Java for
ColdFusion Developers: at:
http://safari.oreilly.com/
Concurrently, I have been taking a tutorial: "Introduction to
Programming Using Java" at:
http://www.faqs.org/docs/javap/index.html
I just found a neat tool called BuueJ at:
http://www.bluej.org/download/download-beta.html
BlueJ is an interactive tool for learning and teaching Java -- it has
every thing you need to learn OOP in Java. It has GUI that lets you
manipulate objects and classes. It is neither underkill or overkill,
so it doesn't get in the way, but allows you to do everything need to
write, test, debug, examine Java programs.
Have a look!
