You shouold look up Dain Anderson (Dain you still on the list??). He handed me a function for browser detection, but it is more concerened with the browser engine instead of the browser name.
I liked that approach because most cross-browser issues (say DHTML functionality) are based o the engine instead of the wrapper around the engine (basically the GUI).
I've made a few tweaks to the function since I got it....it works like a charm
Perhaps to 2 of you can collaborate (that's why Dain and I started chatting...to eventually open it up to the CF community)....it may prove very useful!!
Cheers

Subject: RE: cf_aebrowser - New Version Testing Help Required
Hi Everyone.
Firstly I would like to thank everyone who has helped so far, it has been
good to get some real world testing of the tag and it has help find some
problem and fixes. I would now like to ask for one final time for some help
with testing. I think I have something that is pretty stable now and working
well, but I need one last set of tests to confirm everything is ok. So
anyone who would like to help please can you point all the browsers and
operating system combinations you have at the following URL:
http://www.andrewdixon.co.uk/aebrowser/test.cfm
and if you would like to download a copy of the tag, please visit
http://www.andrewdixon.co.uk/aebrowser/
Thanks once again.
Best Regards
