I don't plan to actually host any email accounts at this point,
I just need my own SMTP to send emails out from...the usage is mostly,
using email address of clients who have email accounts with other
ISP's and sending out emails using their return address.

I guess what that means for the bulk of my emailing, (perhaps showing vast
ignorance here),
that I don't need POP functionality as much as SMTP...i.e., I don't need
to provide email accounts for clients as just a way to send out messages
using
their email addresses from their ISP's and then sending out the messages
through CF.

For instance...I've built a Test Reminder System for a local elementary
school and
everyday about 600 emails get generated to the parents with the teachers'
return addresses
(the school provides their email service) and they go out through Cold
Fusion.  Announcements
from the school get automatically sent to all staff and parents, too.  So I
could easily run into
a couple thousand emails a day with just that one school.

So, I don't need to host email accounts as much as relay messages through an
SMTP server.

Am I seeing and understanding my situation correctly?

Rick

Good luck finding good documentation, and the logging is terrible, so
  good luck debugging problems!

At work, we use Alt-N MDaemon (www.mdaemon.com)... it's pretty nice and
works well.  Fairly inexpensive too, if you're not gonna be hosting many
  mailboxes.
