This is what I use.  It will verify valid IP addresses as the domain.

^['\w-]+(\.['\w-]+)*@([\w-]+(\.[\w-]+)*\.(([a-zA-Z]{2,3})|(aero|coop|info|museum|name))|(((\d{1,2})|(1\d{2})|(2[0-4]\d)|(25[0-5]))\.){3}((\d{1,2})|(1\d{2})|(2[0-4]\d)|(25[0-5])))$

Don't forget about internationalised and localised things like á,é,í,ó and ú
etc :) They are all valid characters.....

I think these days, its getting easier to say what is not valid rather than
what is valid...
