Great reply Dave and yes you're right about the cost savings derived via the
quick development cycle that's typical with CF. I hear ya. Been there done
that.

All I'm saying is that CF's perception as, what you so aptly called, a
tagrunner still exists today and if a manager or developer thinks that
they're paying $1299 for a "tagrunner" they'll just use an alternative;
especially if its free.

MM has taken CF to another level but they've done a poor job of positioning
and marketing the product. All they do is push RIA, Flash, Breeze and Flex
but neglate to push the app server. It's as if they'd prefer to keep the
middleware and backend autonomous as to not alienate other language
developers. If that's the case, I can certainly understand it from a
business perspective but it sure doesn't give CF any much needed exposure.

Finally, with regard to learning Flash, you will always have people that are
more focused on backend development than UI. Flash is a UI tool and while
Flex may make things easier for developers to build RIAs, I dread to picture
the end results of some the UIs if developers assumed the roles of UI
designers. Ugh. Having developed Windows applications prior to building
Internet applications, I can tell you for fact that developers are the last
people you want doing any type of front-end work.
