>All I'm saying is that CF's perception as, what you so aptly called, a >tagrunner still exists today and if a manager or developer thinks that >they're paying $1299 for a "tagrunner" they'll just use an alternative; >especially if its free.
In that case is that you shouldn't even be talking about CFMX Pro, you should go straight to CFMX Enterprise on J2EE, because managers and executives will understand the positioning as an enterprise solution. Please understand I am only talking about cases where managers think a $1,299 product is too cheap to be what they need. In that case, I would first make an argument for deploying applications on JBoss, Websphere, etc. You get the manager to buy into the idea of running on the Java platform and how that benefits a business overall. Chances are if it is a decent sized business there are already other Java apps running inside the company. Once that decision is made you can get into the RAD argument. You say, for example, we estimate that it will cost $50K worth of development time to build an application in Java. You then make the argument that you can chop off 1/3 of the development time by buying CFMX for J2EE licenses and writing the code in CFMX. If you need extra ammo you can argue that CFMX developers are cheaper than Java developers and that means overall lower costs- not just for development but for ongoing support. (Personally I would not generally make this argument as it tends to undercut your own financial position). In that case, the one project more than pays for the license costs of CFMX Enterprise. In short, if you expect people to see CFMX as an enterprise solution, then position it as an enterprise solution. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Protect your mail server with built in anti-virus protection.
