i guess when i say that MM needs to do a bit more on getting the word out, i am talking about it on the developer level not the corporate level. I knida imagined that it was doing good on the corporate level because of how much MM is doing with it.
im talking bout more of these developers using php & .net and there only real reason is cause they write "free" all over it. These are ppl like me, who arent making enterprise sized apps, so therefor shouldnt be affected by the coldfusion price tag. But a mojority of them think that MM charges everyone who uses it at least $1200, which we know isnt true, especially for what these ppl are developing and deploying on shared servers. They also dont know that cfml is also a java compiler as well and not just a tag parser anymore. They also dont realize that say php may very well get caught "flat footed" since it doesnt sit on top of j2ee or .net. Amazingly, they really dont even know what those are, lol. Now to your ? why not do some targeting to usergroups like this (but other launguages). For example, go to flash coders list (i swear dave must hate me, lol) and maybe make a breeze presentation about moving from php to cfml and using it with flash & remoting. And have coding examples and a very clear price layout, maybe some truths and myths about using and pricings as well. If these ppl could actually see how much easier and better it is and still wont touch their wallet only a pure idiot wouldnt do it. Another myth i hear a lot is about how much more hosting costs then say php. Personally i think that i pay about $8.20 a month for my hosting with hostmysite.com which i think is pretty friggin good for as good as they are. same with flex. But u need to get the lil guys happy and it will work its way up the ladder, cant expect to start at the top and have it trickle down. so when flex is available for us non enterprise developers the buzz will really get going! and im just using php as an example, but their only real reason for using it is cause of the price and like i said most of these ppl are small and have their apps hosted so the cfm pricing doesnt really apply to them but they just dont get it cause MM never says anything about it. just my opinion btw~ maybe we dont want more ppl moving to cfml if the big guns are keeping it alive, just makes it harder for us to get biz ;) ---------- Original Message ---------------------------------- From: "Ben Forta" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Wed, 20 Oct 2004 22:51:30 -0400 >Interesting thread, on a whole bunch of levels. > >A few comments, and then an open question ... > >1) Lots of messages imply that MM is not working on getting the word out >there.
