A .cfm file will *always* be passed to the CF engine, so even if there's nothing for the engine to do, it's still got to break the page down etc, so there will be a speed increase in serving up the pages (although it'll only be measured in a matter of milliseconds). A more important benefit (as I see it) is that it keeps the CF server free for "real" requests, i.e. those that actually require some CF processing.
