I've also been trying to find the best method for this. I have a small app that someone I believe on this list gave to me or told me about, that sends out emails 200 at a time. This helps so that it's not considered spam. If you'd like I can forward you a copy. I've used basic HTML inside the message for links and text formatting, but nothing beyond that.
