>> Has anyone run their own DNS server? We use Bind for NT for the Primary, and both Secondary DNS servers.
>> Does anyone know the additional load incurred by >> running your own DNS The primary DNS machine is a 450Mgz Pentium with 512meg memory and a 10 gig Hard drive. The secondary boxes are 230Mhz Pentiums. We are the authoritive host for about 1000 domains and the CPU utilization of the DNS servers is practically nil. The bandwidth on a real busy day might spike to 220Kbit/sec but that may be skewed because we also run the secondary mailserver on the same box. I suspect that we might get 40-80Kbit/sec on the DNS alone because the secondary runs 20-50Kbit/sec.
