Dave, Thank you for the great suggestion. I tried running cfstart.bat and the behavior is the same. Sometimes CFMX starts up, other times JRun.exe goes out of control. It takes over my computer to such an extent that I cannot even shut the computer down. I have to pull the plug. I don't want the process of starting CFMX to be like playing Russian roulette, where one unlucky draw kills my computer.
The only error was this one: warning Unable to open C:\CFusionMX\runtime/lib/license.properties which I fixed by making a copy of license.properties in the correct location. The top of the stack trace was this line: "jms-fifo-5" prio=5 tid=0x03d2b338 nid=0xf58 in Object.wait() [514f000..514fdbc] The stack trace was pretty meaningless otherwise. I am not sure what to look for in the trace, but there weren't any obvious errors. My next attempt will be to uninstall CFMX 6.1, install CFMX 6.0, then upgrade it to 6.1.
