I don't know about CFMX Pro - we use CFMX for J2EE on WebSphere with J2EE sessions. The J2EE session setting makes the CFMX session the same as the J2EE session object. The browser gets a non-persistent cookie with the jsessionid. The session can then be replicated across all the Application Servers.
Search the Macromedia ColdFusion knowledge base for J2EE and you'll find a lot of info.
