But how did you solve the backup-side of the view ?
My backup space and is limited and dat-files are swollowing a lot during the
months.
The only thing I can imagine is to overrite the backup-devices with the
latests DB-backups every month or so.

I found that it isn't practical for all but the simplest dbs.

You need to limit your db design (and, therefor, the entire on-line
application design) to the lowest common denominator (Access).  Not
to the mention the time required, synchronization, etc.

A better approach for this client was to make their applications
web-centric.

You can put together some simple CF programs to allow ad hoc
reporting and queries of the on-line db.
