I believe if you do due diligence on this issue, you'll find that the person she talked to was mistaken; that CALs don't apply to Internet connection. I believe my original statement was correct.
Remember that even though a representative or agent of Microsoft tells you something incorrect it doesn't matter. You'll either need to produce something official in writing from them that backs up what that person says or you're a violator. I had this happen to me, too, some years ago. It seemed like I would get five opinions from three different people at the company that published the product! It all comes down to their published policy, which is sometimes hard to find.
