Matt... I had another look at SyncBackSE to make sure and, while it does support SSL transfers, I was originally thinking of WebDrive. I had set WebDrive up to connect to Serv-U and WebDrive uses SSL....
However, I set up a task for SyncBackSE and had it connect directly to Serv-U, by-passing WebDrive. To do that, I had to go into Expert Mode and use the FTP tab and check the box that states that the destination is an FTP site. Once that's done, a button for "Extra Settings" is enabled and in that area is where you find encryption settings. The choices are None, SSL v2, SSL v2 or v3, SSL v3, or TLS v1. I had selected SSL v2 or v3 for this transfer, but for some reason it appears to have used TLS...I'm not up on transfer encryption to know how much difference that makes. Perhaps you can enlighten me as to what these settings mean? Is TLS as secure as SSL? What about the versions? I did found out that TLS means "Transparent LAN Services" and is supposed to provide a private connection, like SSL) secure? Here's some of the initial FTP feedback from Serv-U when I ran the FTP trial with SyncBackSE: [6] Fri 11Feb05 19:35:25 - (000174) 220 Serv-U FTP Server v6.0 for WinSock ready... [2] Fri 11Feb05 19:35:26 - (000174) AUTH TLS [6] Fri 11Feb05 19:35:26 - (000174) 234 AUTH command OK. Initializing SSL connection. [2] Fri 11Feb05 19:35:27 - (000174) USER Rick [6] Fri 11Feb05 19:35:27 - (000174) 331 User name okay, need password. [2] Fri 11Feb05 19:35:27 - (000174) PASS xxxxx [5] Fri 11Feb05 19:35:27 - (000174) User RICK logged in [6] Fri 11Feb05 19:35:27 - (000174) 230 User logged in, proceed. [2] Fri 11Feb05 19:35:27 - (000174) FEAT [6] Fri 11Feb05 19:35:27 - (000174) 211-Extension supported [6] Fri 11Feb05 19:35:27 - (000174) AUTH TLS So, it appears to be using SSL...although it's using "AUTH TLS" in example... If I can do direct connections to my FTP server for backups with email notification to my client and to me of backup success and / or failure, then I guess I really don't need WebDrive, unless clients want to "Drag and Drop" files or be able to view what's in their backup from Windows Explorer... What are you thoughts on this? That will be a part of the not-yet-released Pro version.
