Hi Tia,
[You Wrote]
|I would like to flash a java script alert box saying that a login name is
|already in use. This will happen on the submit and it will go to the action
|page to check the db. My question is can I have the alert box pop up on the
|form page so the person does not have to go back and re-enter all of their
|information. How do I do this?
If you have a hidden frame on this page you could submit the form to the
hidden frame and have you pop-up appear due to the resultant script being
executed. We use this for a voting scheme. The result is that your
javascript window(in your case an alert) pops-up and your original doesn't
seem to have gone anywhere. I think this is the effect you are looking for.
You can see the effect on WOW! with the user vote on the contents page or
the sports-section homepage, here at WOW!
Hope this helps.

Anthony Geoghegan.
