I got both.

Anyway, the JavaScript method is navigator.javaEnabled(), which returns a
boolean to tell you if Java is available on the client. This should work on
almost any browser.

java.lang.System.getProperty("java.version") works for the version on
FF/NS/Etc but not on IE.

You could check with JS so see if Java is available and then use an applet
to get the vendor and version, too.
