I agree and I think the point to remember is that if clients and users knew
what they wanted 100% from the get-go we wouldn't be having this
conversation as any approach would suffice, performance being a non factor
of course. Needless to say, experience shows us that specs change,
requirements change, news ways of doing things evolve that enhance
reliability, scalability, etc so we tailor changes and refactoring around
all that.... so why wouldn't we make things more easily maintainable, even
if we do not foresee changes... especially when you are only talking a
couple minutes here and there?!! A client would gladly pay an extra $50 now
compared to the excuses and rates of complex changes in the future! Oh well,
frankly I must be in an argumentative mood tonight... or is that
everyday?.... either way no sense in arguing about it as we all have our
ways of doing things, right or wrong, and most of us adapt when we discover
better ways of doing things.
