I used to use notepad2, replace notepad as my reg text editor but I just switched to http://notepad.gridinsoft.com/, look for the lite version which is free and is really all most ppl need. It just "feels" better to me.

Both free, both google-able... both quite nice. Notepad2: http://www.flos-freeware.ch/np2faq.html MOST excellent and really quite free... it's a hobby project for some dude in Czechoslovakia. I emailed him a question once, and he got me an answer in 24 hours. Not bad for a freebie. In Notepad2, you can hit view/show line endings and it will show you the line endings. It also has formats for a bajillion source file formats, including HTML, JS, Perl, PHP, blah blah blah... it's based on the Scintilla source formatter, and apparently adding source formats is kind of a challenge for us non-C++'ers. But it's still an awesome tool. I use it for editing all my Linux conf files on windows via Samba or FTP. I also use it for a lightweight/backup editor for HTML, JS, and even CF files. It's source formatting is very similar to CFEclipse. Hey, Rob or Spike, what do you know about Scintilla/similar and what's it take to add a language profile for something like that?
