I used one a couple years ago at http://www.ihs.gov/misc/links_gateway/sub_categories.cfm?Sub_Cat_ID=050102. Where it uses paired numbers for each category. For example 01=computers, 0101=software, 010101=ColdFusion studio, etc... This simple method allows up to ninety-nine subcategories per category... or you can extend it using hex. You could also use a recursive data model from one table to itself (table_id, table_of_id)... or you could use something like a materials breakdown model which uses two tables... Does anyone have any code/db recommendation on setting up a category and subcategory system (like yahoo)?
