Rick I briefly looked into this for an extension for Farcry, I basically wanted the user to be able to upload a directory of images on the local machine instead of having to select one image at a time, I came up with a list of active-x controls and applets which could accomplish this,
I don't have the list on this machine but I'll check my home pc later For now a quick google of file upload applet/active x turns up http://jupload.sourceforge.net/ http://demo.softartisans.com/demo-291.aspx http://www.jscape.com/ftpapplet/ftp_applet_demo.jsp http://www.radinks.com/upload/demo.php (this one allows drag and drop from the desktop :) ). How suitable they are will depending on your requirements and the security implications.
