Donna, There has been some good feedback so far but one thing to always bear in mind is that we are employed for one purpose only - to make money for our employers.
What I would recommend is look at ways to add *business value* with your skills. I don't know much about what your employer does but can you identify and problems they have that could be addressed technically? Do they have an intranet? Do they have a knowledge base? Are they doing things manually which could be automated using a web application? Are they using systems which could be integrated? Do they have an internal weekly newsletter? Are they copying and pasting data from one application to another? I would examine ways that you could use Coldfusion to influence the bottom line (which should be easier to do if it is a small company). You'll be in an ideal position to actually talk to people in the company and see what they do and identify places where you can apply your skills to improve things. Finally don't tell them what you are doing till it's polished and done - this will not only demonstrate business acumen (i.e. you're not just another techie) but will also impress management and satisfy you at the same time.
