MDAC was not mainly developed for Win2000, it was the next release that the
MDAC group was working on and it was planned as a regular release for NT4
and W2K. IT shipped with Windows2000 and then was released as a standalone
product.
It really is needed for the next release of SQL2000 of which the early
testing of SQL2000 was on Win2000 and for Office 10 which is in late Alpha
testing right now. There will be a new MDAC with SQL2000 as well and unknown
how it will be released in conjunction with Office 10 which is not assigned
a year right now but is expected in 2001.

Are you sure? For a while 2.5 was NOT recommended with CF 4.01, but maybe
SP1 to 2.5 solves that?
