You get more I/O with SCSI than you do with IDE, which is why the
SCSI-based Western Digital Raptor SATA drives are still faster than
IDE-based SATA drives.

You see SATA is based on SCSI and all the best SATA drives are based on
a SCSI core.  The high-end SATA drives, like the WD Raptors or the new
SATA-300 drives will be faster than comparable IDE ones.
