While I'm output the query I would.

But I want to know before hand so I might calculate a correct "page" to start 
on, if I decide to do this.

For example take data that looks like this

col1    col2    col3
1       B       delta
2       A       beta
3       C       alpha

Now I sort this query on col2:
Col1    col2    col3
2       A       beta
1       B       delta
3       C       alpha

I want to know what "row" the 1|B|delta record is in, so that I can determin 
what page it is going to appear on, assumin I had many more rows that needed 
several pages to display 12 rows at a time.
