I am not sure what you are asking here. The name space in example 1 is
"some_domain.com" and in example 2 its "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml"
they are both assigned to "v" in the document so <v:test /> whould be
in which ever name space you were using for "v"

Well, name spaces are whatever you want them to be. Its just a string.
It doesn't have to be a URl
xmlns:booga="hi_there_this_is_my_name_space" is valid (not recommended
though). You can thing of it as the key to a table that will hold all
the tags that are in that name space. So something like this
xmlns:yes="yadda.com"
xmlns:no="booga.com"
<root>
<yes:mytag>hi</yes:mytag>
<no:mytag>there</no:mytag>
<no:another>there2</no:another>
</root>
winds up like this:
yadda.com | booga.com
----------------------------------------
mytag=hi | mytag=there
| another=there2
> Are the two references equivalent?
No, one is in the name space "some_domain.com" and the other is in
"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml"
I hoped that help, but it was a bit abstract...
