Righto. I was using the registry before as a way to figure out where the
path was but that is no longer being used in MX or 7. Also that has no
use on non-Windows platforms. I looked through the ColdFusion factory
service but I don't see anything in there that points to the
installation dir. Any ideas?

CFMX doesn't use the registry to store configuration information. It
stores that information within the neo-*.xml files in \cfusionmx\lib or
\jrun4\servers\cfusion\cfusion-ear\cfusion-war\WEB-INF\cfusion\lib.
