Good point Dave.  I think many people don't take advantage of SQL
Server's users and roles to the point that they could and miss out on
some security potential.  Though, practically speaking, for most average
sites, it's probably easier for people to give dbo ownership of
everything.

I disagree with your assertion that using the dbo alias for ownership is
a "best practice". There is nothing wrong with allowing specific logins
to own objects, as long as you're aware that you're doing this. In fact,
I'll go a step farther and say that if there's any best practice in
this, it's to explicitly state table ownership in your queries.
