To the best of my knowledge, Macromedia has never recommended this. I can see why you might want to do it if you're using FoxPro, but not with MS SQL Server or any other enterprise database server. I don't know how much I can elaborate beyond that, without specific questions, other than to say that creating new database connections unnecessarily is expensive - that's why connection pooling is provided.
