Yes, you must specify the direction on each column.

....ORDER BY status DESC, date_added DESC...

Subject: query sort assistance

I have a query that grabs the status (approved, denied, pending) and the
date added. I want to sort by status and then by date added, both
descending. It currently does one or the other. Here's my latest try
which I thought would work. I guess I need to designate desc on each
field, somehow.

<CFQUERY NAME="getSelect" DATASOURCE="dpch">
     select polexc_id,exception,fname,mname,lname,date_added,status
     from policy_exceptions
     where archived <> 1
     order by status,date_added desc
</CFQUERY>

thanks!
