This AJAX stuff is cool. After redeveloping an interface I had coded
purely server side, refreshing the whole page to walk a tree, I now
have a more performant and generally cooler DHTML interface that still
works in IE and FF. Thank goodness every browser worth speaking of
supports innerHTML - it renders faster than any other DOM technique
and it's a whole lot simpler for small things.
I also developed a debugging method for anyone who uses CFAJAX and has
problems locating a CF bug. At the top of the functions.cfm file (or
whatever the AJAX engine is pointed to) nominate an error handling
file:
<cferror template="error.cfm" type="exception">
and in the error.cfm file do something like this:
<cfoutput>alert("#JSStringFormat("Error:" & Error.Diagnostics)#");</cfoutput>
Any time there is a CF error, instead of weirdness you get a neatly
packed JS alert with the error details.
