Thanks Simeon. This isn't the problem though. It's a test site under my personal domain. When you add to cart it just goes secure, but it's still on the same domain with a shared ssl. And also this thing works with FF. No errors, no problem. I'm baffled here. Bet it's somethin' stupid.
