IMO, source control should be used anytime when changes will occur to a
file. If these images never change state and are "permanent", then it's not
something I would necessarily add to my source control repository. Instead,
I'd just make sure there were several hard copies of the data, so I can
restore any information that gets deleted.

So, while I'd source control any images that deal w/my website design, I
wouldn't necessarily source control images in a "Photo Album"--since those
are generally just dumps from my camera in which I might make some minor
modifications once and then just archive onto CD/DVD.
