Could it be done using CFIF tags in coldfusion ?

use a little javascript..and a div tag...

wrap your please wait stuff in in div tag. The once your page starts
loading use javascript to hide your div tag.
Your code would look something like:

<div id="pleaseWait">
Please Wait .....
</div>
<code stuf here>
<!--- note this is inline javascript ---> <script>
getElementById("pleaseWait").style.display = 'none'; </script>
