I think you're usually better off reserving the clustered index for something other than an identity column for a couple of reasons. First, assigning the clustered index to an identity column means you might have hotspots if you have lots of near-concurrent INSERTs. Second, you get much more bang for your index buck if you have any other fields within the table that you commonly search.
