What I do in Quickbook is very simple. Under "Item" is usually select 
"Programming" or "Consulting". In "Description" I reference the billable hours 
pdf file generated by the billing timer application. Enter the qty and rate as 
shown on the pdf and I'm done. My cpa has never complained, and it making 
billings fast and easy.
