Claude: I wasn't saying that there's never a reason to grab the recordset. I was saying there's not a reason to never need JUST the count (i think that's what i was saying...too many negatives in one sentence confuse me). yes, situations exists where you need the whole shebang. but situations exist as well where you need just the count and nothing more.
