Actually, I just recently used this technique combined with named anchors and 
the overflow: scroll property to create a nice div/CSS based popup that 
contained a fair amount a data in it.  I used a nested div so that the headers 
of the data stay visible above the scrolling cells.  

Now, if the data was so massive that it would effect the download time, then I 
would look for a different solution.
