Thanks.  I know that I can do that.  I need to find out if there's a way to put 
it in the application scope WITHOUT using a component.

put it in a component, and then create an object of the component in
the application scope.  It wont be directly in the application scope,
but in a variable in the application scope.

application.myudfs.myudf()
