Neal, I would recommend taking advantage of on of the Custom fields (Custom1,Custom2 etc) in Verity and including the required rank in that field. Then after you run the search, you can filter out results based on comparing the users "user rank" to that field.

The Searcher component encapsulates common search functionality and keeps track of what users search for and what they choose from their searches.
